Diagnosing and Correcting User Experience Problems
Usability testing is a highly-effective diagnostic tool for identifying and correcting usability problems. During a typical usability test, we moderate one-on-one sessions with 8-12 current or prospective customers to complete a series of frequent or important tasks using your website or application. We identify areas where the design fails to support users in completing tasks and areas where the design works well.
The Acclaro Approach
To control test costs, we usually recommend conducting the usability tests in a conference room at your office rather than renting a usability test lab. Your product team members can observe a video and screen feed of the test session from another room at your office or via webconference. We also post video recordings—which include the participant’s screen with mouse tracking and a picture-in-picture of the participant’s face—to a secure area on the Acclaro website.
The biggest value that Acclaro brings to usability testing clients is our analysis of the problems uncovered during usability testing. Rather than leaving you with a list of problems, we use a combination of human factors principles and contextual information about how your users approached tasks during testing to create design solutions. We create wire frames illustrating both immediate fixes and long term solutions to all critical and major usability problems uncovered during testing. We incorporate interaction design and human factors principles into all recommendations.
While usability testing is ideally performed before a product is released to customers, many clients have an existing product that they know needs to be improved. Usability testing is a cost-effective method for identifying and correcting major usability problems and making immediate improvements to the user experience.
